Reflections on DOOM's Development

The inclusion of multiplayer co-op and deathmatch modes changed everything about games. We knew that playing a game as fast and over-the-top as DOOM would signal a new era. I visualized what E1M7 would look like with two players shooting rockets at each other over a large room and it got me more excited than I had been since Wolfenstein 3D’s chaingun audio.

25 years of Doom

The original Doom turns 25 this year, and to celebrate, its co-creater, John Remero made a new chapter to the original game, titled Sigil.

Fortnite Developer Launches Epic Games Store

Developers receive 88% of revenue. There are no tiers or thresholds. Epic takes 12%. And if you’re using Unreal Engine, Epic will cover the 5% engine royalty for sales on the Epic Games store, out of Epic’s 12%.

The timing of this is interesting, coming just days after Stream’s new tiered pricing favoring larger titles.

Wildstar MMO shuts down

Via twitter:

As of November 28 at 2pm PST, the North American and European WildStar game service has closed. Thank you to everyone who joined us on this grand adventure across Nexus!

I never played the game, but it’s always sad to see an MMO close up shop.

Choose your own adventure...with Typeform

I love this. I never thought to use Typeform this way. It’s still not as open as something like Ink or Twine, but it’s always great to see services being used for strange new things.

Fallout 76 patch is larger than the base game

The zero-day patch is sitting at 54 GB. Between this and the news that the next Overwatch patch will require you to reinstall the entire game, maybe studios should start refocusing on optimizations to code.
