Atari Gamer, has been running the Atari Lynx 30th Birthday Programming Competition over the past few months and we now have the final submissions! All eleven of them! That’s right, that’s eleven new games for you to play and rate. We do admit that some are very well polished and others are more on the tech demo side, but all are worth having a look at.
Admittedly, I never played the Lynx hardware when it came out, but I find it fascinating people are still developing games for the platform
In concept, it was a great idea to have a hidden high level code editor right there on a console as an easter egg. But in practice, this opens the console up to a slew of exploits. there’s no saying what kind of system access the editor really has, and players that do not know how to read code could potentially brick their systems. Nintendo made the right call to remove it.
Work in progress for something…Doomy.
Put together by Rami Ismail, Meditations.games is a collection of games by over 350 developers. Each day is a new, unique game, and only available that day.
Its a great concept. I’d love to see the analytics by the end of the year, and just how many people will still be playing this.
I love this. I never thought to use Typeform this way. It’s still not as open as something like Ink or Twine, but it’s always great to see services being used for strange new things.
There’s some great stuff coming out of the 7DFPS game jam. I’m not sure how practical this could be, but being able to see in every direction at once adds a new layer of interaction to your typical first person shooter.

An ambitious and rather impressive project to say the least. At some point though, you have to ask yourself if it would just be easier to build a 3rd person game engine in the likeness of Starcraft, outside of the Starcraft II client, rather than modding a real time strategy engine to function as a 3rd person game. A good comparison to this would be the popular Warcraft 3 mod Dota, and the stand alone game Dota2.
When you’re constructing a mod for a game, you’re limiting yourself to that game

There’s not that many titles out there that began on iOS and made their way to this many other platforms over time
Close to a 1/3 of sales came from IOS. This was a truly amazing game with some stunning audio. I could listen to the soundtrack all day.

Creative Directer Ocean Quigley, Gameplay Lead Dan Moskowitz, and Lead Architect Andrew Willmott have left EA/Maxis to form an indie studio, Jellygrade. An interesting move, but Im going to remain skeptical for the time being. Forming a studio to develop an iPad game just seems like a bad move with the shape of the current market.

What Would Molydeux, affectionately referred to as “Molyjam,” is a 48 hour game jam inspired by the works of @petermolydeux, a loving parody of the legendary Game Designer, Peter Molyneux.
While I won’t officially be participating, I think this might be the perfect time to flesh out an idea I’ve had for a while. Look for an update Monday next week.
